Viroid threatens cannabis industry 🦠
A viroid that can drop THC and CBD levels by 40% and lower yields is threatening the worldwide cannabis industry.

Known as Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd), experts think it has spread around the world thanks to the cannabis industry’s heavy reliance on clones.
“So everybody is shipping clones from here to there, and nobody was testing, or nobody was aware of any methodology to test for this virus.
“What we did was basically spread it all over the planet. Anybody receiving any plants from the United States, especially from California, has the viroid in their grow.”
30% of cannabis plants in the US are estimated to be infected with HLVd. This translates into an estimated annual loss of $4 Billion based on the 7 million pounds of cannabis produced in the US during 2021.
Help is available though. Dark Heart Nursery says they can detect and remove the viroid from plants. Front Range Biosciences also have a method for removing the viroid using tissue culture.

Is TYSON 2.0 coming to AUS? 👂
InterCure Ltd has licensed the Mike Tyson branded TYSON 2.0 in Australia, Israel, United Kingdom, Germany and other EU countries. The agreement gives InterCure the exclusive distribution license to cultivate, manufacture, sell, market, and distribute TYSON 2.0 products.
InterCure are based in Israel and operate CannDoc a producer of pharmaceutical grade medicinal cannabis. They haven’t given any indication when TYSON 2.0 products will come to Australia and what products will be offered.
Ear biter Mike Tyson launched the TYSON 2.0 brand about a year ago and generated about $50 million in revenue so far. Their product range includes three different types of flower and edibles in the shape Evander Holyfields ear.

As far as we are aware this would be the first celebrity-branded cannabis product to come to Australia. It’ll be interesting to see how this works in Australia because rules banning advertising medicines will make celebrity branding much less effective.

Emyria’s high (😉) CBD capsule
Emyria (ASX:EMD) has announced a high CBD capsule called EMD-RX9 for people requiring higher doses of CBD.
The capsule aims to deliver doses of CBD higher than 150mg in a single pill which is more convenient for patients on high doses because they have to take less pills.
Emyria are planning to conduct a Phase 1 head-to-head study against Epidyolex. Epidyolex is the only registered CBD medication on the market worldwide.
ECS Botanics quarterly receipts up 265%
ECS Botanics (ASX:ECS) announced quarterly receipts of $4.37 million and revenues of $3.78 million for the March quarter. Quarterly cash receipts were up 265% over the same quarter last year.
They attribute the growth to strong demand for their products. Sales in March reached a record $2.41 million, up 36% over the previous month.
ECS also signed an agreement with Ilios Sante to send a minimum of $9.9 million worth of cannabis products to Germany over three years.

Things are going so well at ECS they are looking at ways to extend their growing season, but didn’t provide any further details on how they’d do this.
